Alcoholic Beverage License Instruction Sheet
Step 1: Complete the State ABC license application and provide us with a copy of the confirmation of application.
Step 2: Complete the City of Huntsville’s general business license application.
Step 3: Complete the City of Huntsville’s alcohol license application and submit all supporting documents listed in the checklist at the top of the application. If submitting the application in person, contact the office to set up an appointment to submit the application packet and pay the fees [$100 application fee & $25 background fee(s)]. If mailing the application packet, send the application, supporting documents, and check using UPS or FedEx to:

Once submitted, the completed application starts our internal recommendation for approval process.
Step 4: Once all the recommendations for approval are received from the necessary departments, your application is introduced at the next Liquor License Review Committee meeting.
After introduction of the application, we will send you a Notice of Application to Sell Alcohol, of which you will be required to send to a provided listing of property owners within 500ft of the location to be licensed. Once the notices have been mailed, you will sign the Certification Notices Were Mailed form and email a PDF copy of the signed form and a copy of the postage receipt, to our office. Your application will not be considered for action at the committee’s next meeting without us first receiving confirmation the notices were mailed.
Step 5: Once the confirmation is received, the application will be up for consideration at the next committee meeting. If approved, any member of the public can appeal the committee’s approval to the city council. If denied, the same appeal process exists for the applicant. All appeals must be filed with our office within 7 days of the committee’s vote.
Step 6: After the 7-day appeal timeframe and once all licensing requirements are satisfied, the approval letter will be emailed to the local State ABC office.
