If you answered no, then you are not eligible to serve on the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council. All applicants must reside AND go to school within the Huntsville city limits. We will verify addresses to ensure applicants live within the city limits of Huntsville.

As a returning Mayor's Youth Advisory Council member, please answer the following questions. 

The responses to the following questions will be used to ensure diversity of the applicant pool.

Please respond to each question thoroughly. Essays should be no longer than 250 words. Please be clear, specific, and concise. 

Applicants are encouraged to write essays themselves. AI tools can be used for brainstorming or light grammar checks. AI-generated content, where the AI provides the substantive language or structure, is not permitted. If AI is found to have drafted an essay, the submission will be invalidated. The applicant may be asked to reapply.

1. Describe one or two issues you believe are important for the Huntsville community to address. Why do these issues matter, and what ideas do you have for addressing them?​

2. Why are you interested in joining the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council? What do you hope to contribute to the program, and what do you hope to gain from the experience?

3. What does civic engagement mean to you? In what ways can youth in Huntsville become more involved in their community?

4. What does leadership mean to you? Describe a specific time you demonstrated leadership, including your actions and the impact you made.

Meeting Availability: The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) will meet at least one Saturday each month, with additional meetings scheduled as needed based on events and program activities. Members are expected to prioritize attendance and actively participate in all scheduled sessions. Consistent attendance is essential to maintaining membership. Members who accumulate two (2) or more unexcused absences, or three (3) or more excused absences within a semester, may be subject to a membership review conducted by the Executive Board in coordination with City staff. Members should be mindful of potential scheduling conflicts, as frequent absences may impact their ability to remain in good standing with the Council.

Photo Consent: I hereby give permission for my photo to be taken during Mayor's Youth Advisory Council activites for promotional or marketing purposes.

You understand that any false or incomplete section of this application may result in the rejection of the application as a whole.

As the parent/legal guardian of the applicant, I hereby grant my permission to the applicant to participate in the Huntsville Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (HMYAC), which includes, but is not limited to, bimonthly meetings, volunteer outings, day and overnight trips and other activities as they arise. I understand that if accepted, the applicant will need reliable transportation to events and activities.
